There is no boat from Bali to Padar Island or Pink Beach. Both are in Komodo National Park, roughly 400 km east of Bali. Every real “Bali to Padar” trip means flying Denpasar to Labuan Bajo — about 1–1.5 hours — then joining a boat there. The realistic minimum is two days; three days is comfortable.
What people are actually searching for
“Bali to Padar Island”, “Pink Beach from Bali”, “Padar Island Bali” — these are among the most common searches in Indonesian island-hopping, and almost all of them rest on a geographic misunderstanding worth clearing up before you book anything.
Padar and Pink Beach are not in Bali and not near Bali. They sit inside Komodo National Park in East Nusa Tenggara, roughly 400 km east across the Flores Sea. Bali’s role is as the international gateway: you land at Denpasar, then take a domestic flight onward. Some Bali-based agencies sell Komodo packages from Bali offices, which is where much of the confusion originates — the package starts in Bali, but the boat does not.
There is also no pink beach in Bali. The nearest genuine pink-sand beach outside Komodo is Pink Beach (Tangsi) in south-east Lombok, which is a different place entirely and reached by road from Lombok, not by boat from Bali.
The realistic options, with times and costs
| Option | How it works | Total time from Bali | Indicative cost per person | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fly DPS → LBJ, day trip, fly back same day | Earliest flight out, speedboat day tour, last flight back | ~18–20 hours, no sleep | Flights from ~IDR 1,200,000 return in promo, plus ~USD 105 tour, plus park fees | Technically possible; exhausting and weather-fragile. Not recommended. |
| Fly DPS → LBJ, one hotel night, day trip | Fly in the afternoon, day tour next morning, fly out that evening or the following day | 2 days, 1 night | Flights, one hotel night, ~USD 105 tour, park fees | The genuine minimum. Padar arrives mid-morning in hard light. |
| Fly DPS → LBJ, 2D1N liveaboard | Sleep on the boat one night | 3 days including flights | ~USD 220 boat plus flights and park fees | The cheapest way to get Padar at sunrise. |
| Fly DPS → LBJ, 3D2N liveaboard | Two nights on the boat, full classic route | 4 days including flights | IDR 3,000,000–15,000,000 boat depending on class, plus flights and park fees | The balanced standard and what most first-time visitors should book. |
| Sail Bali → Komodo by boat | Multi-day sailing route via Lombok and Sumbawa | 4–6 days one way | Varies widely by vessel | Exists as a niche crossing; it is a voyage, not transport. |
The flight leg in detail
Denpasar (DPS) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ, Komodo Airport) is a short domestic hop of roughly 1 to 1.5 hours non-stop. Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, Citilink and the Lion Air group have all served the route, though frequencies change seasonally and should be checked before you commit to a boat date.
| Route | Flight time | Promotional one-way fare | Typical one-way fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Denpasar (DPS) → Labuan Bajo (LBJ) | ~1–1.5 hours non-stop | ~IDR 600,000 – 900,000 | ~IDR 900,000 – 1,500,000 |
| Jakarta (CGK) → Labuan Bajo (LBJ) | ~2–2.5 hours non-stop | ~IDR 900,000 – 1,400,000 | ~IDR 1,400,000 – 2,200,000 |
Fares are 2026 economy ranges, not fixed prices, and peak-season and last-minute pricing sits above them. Book the flight before the boat if your dates are rigid, and leave a buffer: a delayed morning arrival into Labuan Bajo can mean missing a boat departure at 10:00 with no refund.
Why the day-trip version disappoints
If you fly in and out around a single day tour, your Padar climb happens somewhere between 08:30 and 10:00 — after the sunrise light has gone and while the ridge is heating up. Pink Beach follows in the middle of the day, when the overhead sun washes the sand toward pale beige. You will have seen both places. You will not have seen either at its best.
That is not an argument for spending more money; it is an argument for spending one more night. A 2D1N liveaboard is often barely more expensive than a hotel night plus a day tour, and it moves Padar from mid-morning to first light. That single change is the difference between the two versions of this trip.
Best for
Day trip from a Labuan Bajo hotel: travellers with a single free day, people who cannot sleep on a boat, and anyone treating Komodo as an add-on to a Flores road trip.
2D1N: the minimum that delivers sunrise on Padar. Good for a long weekend out of Bali.
3D2N: the format that fits the whole classic route — Padar, a dragon island, Pink Beach, a manta attempt and the calm-water stops — without compression. Recommended for a first visit.
Not recommended: attempting Padar and Pink Beach as a same-day return from Bali. One delayed flight collapses the entire plan and you will have spent a full day of your holiday in airports.
For the light and timing detail that drives all of this, see the Padar Island guide with monthly sunrise times and the honest account of why Pink Beach looks pinker at some hours than others. Frequently asked questions
Can you go to Padar Island from Bali in one day?
Only by flying to Labuan Bajo and back on the same day, which means roughly 18–20 hours door to door with no sleep and no margin for a delayed flight. It is technically possible and rarely worth it.
Is there a boat from Bali to Komodo?
Not as transport. Multi-day sailing routes exist from Lombok toward Komodo taking four to six days, but they are voyages in their own right. Every practical Komodo trip from Bali uses the Denpasar–Labuan Bajo flight.
How long is the flight from Bali to Labuan Bajo?
About 1 to 1.5 hours non-stop. Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, Citilink and the Lion Air group have served the route, though schedules change seasonally and should be reconfirmed before booking a boat.
How much is a flight from Bali to Labuan Bajo?
Economy one-way fares in 2026 run roughly IDR 600,000–900,000 in promotional periods and IDR 900,000–1,500,000 at typical pricing. Peak season and last-minute bookings sit above that range.
Is there a pink beach in Bali?
No. Bali has no pink-sand beach. The one in Komodo National Park is a flight plus a boat away, and there is a separate Pink Beach (Tangsi) in south-east Lombok reached by road from Lombok.
What is the minimum trip length for Padar and Pink Beach?
Two days and one night if you accept a mid-morning Padar. Three to four days including flights if you want Padar at sunrise, which requires a boat anchored nearby overnight.
Do I need to book the boat before the flight?
Book the flight first if your dates are fixed, then the boat around it. Leave a buffer on the outbound leg: most liveaboards depart Labuan Bajo around 10:00 and a delayed arrival is not usually refundable.
Are national park fees included in Bali-based packages?
Sometimes, and it varies by agency. Ask specifically whether the PP 36/2024 entry charge of IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor and the ranger fee are inside the quoted price, and treat any single “park fee” of IDR 650,000 as a bundled figure.
