Question 1

How much does a 3-day 2-night Komodo island-hopping trip cost in 2027?

Accepted Answer

Per person for a 3D2N shared trip, 2027 market bands are roughly IDR 3,000,000-4,500,000 on standard wooden open-trip boats, IDR 4,500,000-7,000,000 on superior small-group boats with air-conditioned cabins, and IDR 8,000,000-15,000,000 on luxury phinisi with ensuite cabins and a chef. A full-boat private charter runs IDR 30,000,000-80,000,000 per night depending on class. These are reference ranges, not quotations - ask for a written quote.

Question 2

What is the Komodo National Park entrance fee in 2026-2027?

Accepted Answer

Under PP 36/2024 the park entry is IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per visit, and IDR 50,000 on weekdays or IDR 75,000 on weekends and public holidays for Indonesian visitors. The IDR 3,750,000 "membership fee" announced in 2022 was cancelled and is not in force. Figures such as IDR 650,000 circulating online are operator package charges, not the national park ticket.

Question 3

How many cabins and guests does Komodo 3 Island Liveaboard have?

Accepted Answer

The vessel is a traditional Indonesian phinisi, 22 metres long and 6 metres wide, with 5 air-conditioned cabins and a capacity of 14 guests. It runs a Mitsubishi 6D15 engine at a cruising speed of 7-8 knots, carries 4,000 litres of fresh water, and is equipped with 25 life jackets, a liferaft, AIS, GPS and radio communications.

Question 4

Which three islands does a Komodo 3-island trip actually visit?

Accepted Answer

The classic sequence from Labuan Bajo is Kelor Island as the short first stop, Padar Island for the ridge viewpoints at sunrise, and Pink Beach (Pantai Merah) for snorkelling. Longer 3D2N and 4D3N itineraries add a dragon trek on Rinca or Komodo Island, Manta Point at Karang Makassar, the Taka Makassar sandbar, Kanawa and Sebayur reefs, and the Kalong Island bat flight at dusk.

Question 5

When is the best time to sail Komodo National Park?

Accepted Answer

April to June and September to November are the shoulder windows with the calmest sea and the best visibility. July and August are peak season - good visibility but windier in the open straits around Padar, and boats book out 6-12 months ahead. December to March is low season: roughest sea and monsoon rain, but the highest manta density and the lowest rates, with real cancellation risk.

Question 6

Is a liveaboard better than a Komodo day trip?

Accepted Answer

A day trip from Labuan Bajo gives roughly 6-8 hours on the water and reaches two or three near islands. An overnight liveaboard reaches Padar at sunrise before the day boats arrive, includes Manta Point and the far southern sites, and costs less per hour of island time on 3D2N and 4D3N itineraries than a sequence of separate day trips. Day trips suit one spare day in Flores; liveaboards suit anyone who wants Padar without the crowd.
